What’s the best part of life after 40?

Shakespeare, has been part of my teaching career. My favorite quote is from his comedy, Midsummer Night’s Dream: “And though she be but little, she is fierce.” Using my ability to speak, I was able to pass a law in our state ( House Bill 812) to lower the blood alcohol level in drunk driving cases. My sister’s husband lost his life to such a driver; my amazing sister-in-law was killed by one as well. From this experience, I’ve learned that your voice is worth more than anyone’s opinion of you.

What makes you feel fabulous?

I am still able to wear my heels and my vintage dresses with a bit of pride. I love to dance! I still teach Zumba and belly dancing when I can. I love working with my students, making them realize what gratitude means, as we honor our veterans through choral readings and poetry. My senior year my brother was killed in Vietnam, and since then, I have been a supporter of these brave men and women. My heroes! For me, fabulous is what you make of what God gave you!

What would you do with $40,000?

As a single woman, I am on a tight budget. The money would be for traveling with friends and family. I would love to travel with my two daughters to Norway to visit my two foreign exchange students who lived with us many years ago when they were in high school. It would be a memory I would cherish, and I know my daughters would as well. Also, I would like to ensure that my great granddaughter, Madilyn, would continue life in better health. She has had three open heart surgeries and she’s 5.
